Question: Why is it that when supporters of traditional marriage want to continue the fight, it's called "reopening" the debate, but when gay marriage advocates do it, it's not?

If you recall, Parliament passed a motion a number of years ago to preserve the traditional definition of marriage. Yet that never stopped gay marriage supporters from fighting on. Why wasn't that considered an attempt to "reopen" the debate?
