Zach Werner: Idol's Cheese Connoisseur

I think I have finally had enough of Zach Werner, Simon Cowell wannabee of Canada's "Idol" show.

Here is a guy who, let's face it, is there because he is supposed to be our "Simon". He acts as tough the show is his personal sandbox, venting in a way he pleases at any moment or fancy.

He went on World Idol and couldn't resist the anti-American urge to say something ridiculous about American contestant Kelly Clarkson. He shows little respect for the show, the audience, the contestants, and even the host.

Just last week he responded to a Ben Mulroney question by crudely trying to change the topic - repeatedly. It's as though he believes the show exists for him, and not the other way around.

But this week's show was the final straw.

He accused the contestants of making it a 'cheese-fest'. They must have been following his lead, since I can't think of a cheesier TV personality on the air right now.

Mr. Werner should perhaps stop throwing eggs, and cheese, at others and start acting like the professional he's supposed to be.

My fear is that Zach Werner is just the latest example of Canadians investing way too much importance in themselves in a world that largely ignores us. Maybe that's a good thing, since some attention might mean laughter at our expense, thanks to the Cheese Champion himself.
