The Gomery Cheapskates
THROWING DARTS
Well, the argument is being made again that the Gomery inquiry is silly because it costs too much.
Let's think about the kind of argument being made here.
The O'Connor inquiry into the Maher Arar affair is going to cost us at least $20 million. The financial cost of what actually happened with Arar is infinitely smaller than that. Indeed, the Canadian government probably only had to pay for bringing him home from a Syrian torture chamber. What's that? A couple of thousand bucks at the most?
Does that now mean the public doesn't have a right to know how a Canadian citizen was shipped off halfway around the world to be tortured for a year?
Is this seriously the kind of argument being made by the Gomery cheapskates?
