Let's not forget, fiscal responsibility was Preston Manning's baby
This confirms something I have: a) felt was the case for a long time now; b) suspected was the case during the events leading up to the confidence vote last Thursday.
One of the absurdities of Canadian political reality is that, given the choice between two parties offering the same policies, Canadians would prefer the Liberals over their less familiar and less trusted opponents. I know, it's crazy. But there's more to running the country than rooting out corruption, so Canadians seem to think.
This also suggests Harper would still prefer an election sooner rather than later. I know many people have written off the prospects of a spring/summer election since Cadman's vote on Thursday. Given the craziness of this current Parliament, I don't know why anyone would write anything off.
