Tories push, Liberals push right back
MPs prepare for snap vote on NDP budget amendment tonight.
This means the Conservatives probably won't have the votes to defeat the government, which means they may have missed their only opportunity to do so this session. The gay marriage bill is next. They won't have the votes to defeat that either. Parliament will adjourn shortly thereafter. Might happen next week.
The Tories are not happy about the prospect of having debate cut short on a matter as important as the budget. They're also not happy about being preempted on their own attempt to flex their muscles in the House.
Again, stay tuned.
UPDATE (11:57 pm): The NDP budget amendment, C-48, passes. 152-147 was the count.
