Sunni tribal leaders offer help to Iraqi PM
I think this is significant because some of the very same people most responsible for the insurgency in Iraq are turning around and working with the government to rid the country of al Qaeda. If Anbar province becomes friendly territory to the government — and I know that's asking for a lot — then the anti-insurgency forces will have gotten a huge boost with this development.
I also think it's important to remind people that the usual suspects made a lot of hay out of a recent report that suggested Anbar province was slipping from the political grasp of US forces there. Well, looks like the tribal leaders themselves have stepped in to fill the void, which is what the US military said needed to be done.
Let's just hope this is all a good thing.
