Second Thots

Sometimes one has to step back, take pause, and have some "second thots"

Was it a "major" Harper cabinet shuffle?

Some people seem to be describing Harper's cabinet shuffle as "major" or "big." I don't see it that way.

One major portfolio, the environment, got a change. That's the only one that Canadians will remember. Finance stays the same. Foreign affairs stays the same. Quebec ministers stay the same.

How is that "major?"

Harper made one notable change that has any real electoral ramifications. That's basically it.

Sometimes methinks too many political journalists use an "inside baseball" perspective to report news. People don't care about that stuff. They care about the big stuff. And, in this instance, it was the environment getting a whole lot more attention than it once did, which is exactly the message Harper wants to send as we head into a possible election already.

That's all that happened today. Nothing much more.
