Politicians in key constituencies like Harper's budget
There has been a lot of criticism of the government's budget from talking heads. However, I believe that the political popularity of this bill is to be judged by how politicians are reacting to it. Leaving aside the hysterics from Danny Williams and premiers representing a fraction of this country's population, most politicians seem to be siding with Harper on this budget.
All three major provincial political parties in Quebec support this budget. Liberal MPs support and like this budget. Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty supports this budget.
In the precise constituencies that Harper is targeting for a majority, the politicians are supporting this budget. And in the constituencies that Harper already has under his belt, are they going to get a better deal from Liberal leader Stephane Dion? Didn't think so.
I suspect this dynamic will grow as we start heading into a possible election. Just watch.
